I always tinkered. I started
as far back as I can remember, taking my toys apart to see
how they worked. Then, because I tend not to just accept something
as finished, trying to improve them. When I started photography,
my interest in chemistry meant, inevitably, that I would try
to improve the chemicals I bought; warming or cooling a developer,
for instance, or increasing its acutance or speed. That was
thirty five years ago, and I’m still tinkering. Some
years ago I started experimenting with Pyro. Good as it was,
there were too many problems with it to satisfy me; streaking
and uneven staining meant too many spoiled negatives, and
it was inconsistent and unpredictable in use. So I started
to experiment, and I formulated my own version of a staining
developer. Now, some years later and after extensive testing
it is available to the public under the name of Prescysol.
An alkaline stop bath and fix are also available, and due
in the future are a full range of specialist chemicals for
the discerning monochrome worker; bleaches, re-developers,
a new lith developer and a full range of toners.
I love monochrome. And monochrome fine prints
in particular. In my gallery you will find a range of images
and all are for sale. They will be hand-printed to order to
your required size, and supplied in a hinged window matt.
Choose between silver and platinum. Platinum prints are highly
collectable, more so in this digital age, and therefore command
a higher price. How much are they? It depends on various factors;
the image, the size, the medium, and also the issue number.
All the images are a limited edition, but
each following edition number is priced higher than the previous
print. This means that the people who buy early get the best
deals, and as the price rises it reaches a point where sales
cease, each edition therefore having its own in-built edition-limiter!
It goes without saying that all images are
hand-printed to archival standards on the finest papers. For
the latest prices please contact me.
